At Servers99, we ensure our dedicated hardware meets the rigorous demands of Proxmox VE. While Proxmox is flexible enough to run on basic hardware for testing, a stable production environment requires high-quality components—especially if you plan to utilize features like Clustering, High Availability (HA), or Distributed Storage (Ceph).

High Performance Hardware

1. Recommended Production Hardware

Processor (CPU)

  • Requirement: 64-bit Intel or AMD processor.
  • Virtualization: Intel VT or AMD-V (Enabled by default).
  • For Passthrough: Ensure CPU supports VT-d or AMD-d flags for assigning physical GPUs/NICs directly.

Memory (RAM)

  • Base: Min 2 GB reserved for OS.
  • Guest Memory: Add dedicated RAM for every VM.
  • ZFS/Ceph Rules: Allocate ~1 GB extra RAM for every 1 TB of used storage.

High-Speed Storage

Strongly recommend Enterprise SSDs to prevent I/O bottlenecks.

Option A: Hardware RAID

Use a controller with Battery Backup Unit (BBU). Best for traditional setups.

Option B: ZFS / Ceph

Use Non-RAID (HBA mode). Note: ZFS is NOT compatible with Hardware RAID controllers.

Network Strategy
